Ikechukwu Ngene
Ikechukwu “Ik” Ngene is a Nigerian writer, reader, and storyteller with a deep passion for history, literature, and the enduring strength of the human spirit. Trained as a pharmacist at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, he developed an intellectual curiosity that expanded far beyond the sciences into history, the humanities, politics, and African literature.
Influenced by literary giants such as James A. Michener and Chinua Achebe, Ik writes with a rare blend of emotional honesty, historical awareness, and cultural depth. His storytelling is rooted in the belief that African stories deserve to be told authentically, truthfully, and with humanity.
His debut work, The War My Mother Carried: A Son’s Biafran Memoir, is inspired by his childhood memories of the Nigerian Civil War and pays tribute to the courage, resilience, and sacrifices of African women during one of the most painful periods in Nigerian history. Through vivid storytelling and unforgettable characters, Ik explores themes of survival, motherhood, memory, identity, and hope.
He believes literature remains one of the most powerful ways to connect people across cultures and generations, and hopes his work helps bring African experiences and voices to a wider global audience.
